Henlys Estate Agents in Yateley - Image of Yateley town

Yateley is a suburban town and the largest parish in the Hart District which is part of the shire county of Hampshire . Situated in the extreme north-eastern corner, Yateley includes the hamlets of Frogmore and Darby Green. Yateley shares its boundary with Eversley in Hampshire, Blackwater in Surrey and Sandhurst in Berkshire. The name Yateley derives from the Middle English “Yate” meaning ‘Gate’ and “Lea” which is for a ‘forest clearing’. The ‘gate’ refers to the historic entrance to Windsor Forest.

Throughout the nineteenth century Yateley has gradually developed into an area of substantial housing and is one of the fastest growing communities in this part of the country. Yateley is a relatively affluent town whose population is over 20,000. Yateley is a town with a distinct village atmosphere. With excellent private car links, it is approximately 35 miles west of west London and 15 miles south of Reading. Nearest mainline railway stations are in Camberley and Fleet. Blackwater railway station close by has lines to Gatwick and there are also railway stations at Sandhurst and Crowthorne.

What Yateley has to offer?

Yateley retains its semi rural feel and this is partly due to Yateley Common Country Park which is 476 acres of heathland, woodland, grassland and ponds with angling. Once notorious for highwaymen and smugglers now it is an unspoilt attraction and one of Yateley’s best assets. To enter the park is free and some areas have been designated SPAs (Special Protection Areas) because of its importance for wildlife.

Yateley is good for those who enjoy sports and outdoor pursuits having two leisure centers, its own running club, tennis courts, lawn bowls, golf course, famous angling lakes and boating as well as its own off shore sailing club.

Yateley has a truly diverse mix of residential housing from listed buildings dating back to the 15th century, through to Victorian and Edwardian cottages, to those built from the 1920’s to more recently, and each area has its own particular charm. Consult Henlys if there is certain style you are looking to own or rent.
